Configuring the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)

Configuring communications parameters

The following advanced communications options can be configured:

Flow Control
Select None for no flow control. Select Software for XON/XOFF flow control. Select Hardware for RTS/CTS flow control. The default value is Hardware flow control.

Debug Level
The default value is 0 (no debugging). Level 1 debugging logs negotiation information as the link is established and removed. Level 2 debugging logs all negotiation plus all PPP packets in hexadecimal format.

WARNING: Level 2 debugging causes the logfile to grow exceptionally quickly. If you configure level 2 debugging, bring the link down once you have enough log data, then reset the log level to 1 or 0.

For more information on PPP logging, see ``Logging PPP information''.

Filter tag
Set to the name of a packet filter entry in /etc/pppfilter. See packetfilter(SFF) for a description of the format of this file.

Remote Site Uses SCO TCP/IP 1.2.0
Set to Yes if the remote site uses SCO TCP/IP Release 1.2.0.

Proxy ARP entry
Set to Yes to force PPP to make proxy ARP entries for local and remote IP addresses into the ARP table. For more information, see ``Proxy ARP''.

On-card framing
This option controls the use of on-card framing by smart asynchronous serial port devices on a per-endpoint basis. If set to Yes, PPP framing is performed by the asyh STREAMS module in the PPP stack. If set to No, PPP will attempt to configure the smart serial card hardware to perform framing.
For more information about communications parameters, see ppphosts(SFF).
