Getting a variable

The easiest command to use for retrieving specific variables is getone(ADMN). The syntax of getone is getone node community variable. For example, to ask node ``paris'' for its system description, enter the command getone paris public sysDescr.0. This assumes that paris accepts requests with a community of public.

The following shows two uses of getone:

getone example

   # getone paris public sysDescr.0

Name: sysDescr.0 Value: SNMPD Version 3.0 for SCO UNIX

# getone paris public sysName.0

Name: sysName.0 Value: paris.cities.your_company.com
